This week, let's do something a little different.
Jesus gave us a special challenge in Matthew 5:16 - "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven."
I was blessed to hang out with some amazing kids at VBS a couple weeks ago, and one of the songs we sang was "This little light of mine/I'm gonna let it shine..." At the end of the day, when I was asking them what they thought it meant, they didn't know.
We talked about how Jesus wants us to love others, to show Jesus' to those around us.
So as a quick refresher for us... :) We can really take away a couple things from this verse:
1. God has given us a light
As Christians, we are called to "shine" for Him. Jesus gives us a "light" when we accept Him as our Savior and Lord. He gives us joy, hope, and so many other gifts! It is an amazing reminder that we're shining for Jesus - and also sobering to realize that our actions reflect Him. Are we shining our light?
2. Why we shine
This verse encourages us to shine not for our own glory, but for His! To point others to Christ. To bless others in Jesus' Name.
In today's day and age, it can be so easy to get caught up in the busy-ness of day to day activities that we miss the special opportunities we have to shine our lights.
So I'm offering a special challenge for this week: How can you shine your light?
1 John 4:11 gives a special tip: "Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another."
One of the best ways we can shine our light is to show love to others. This could be through a note, letting someone know you're praying for them, helping a sibling with an extra chore... There are so many options! Let's shine our lights today.
Have a great week! See you soon!
